Faced with a growing local and export market
in the early 1980's, a group of marble company owners decided to meet in early
1983 to discuss the possibility of having a standard price for the marble
product line. As more companies joined the meetings, more issues were raised
and discussed. By February 1984, the group saw the need to form a legitimate
marble producers' association for the following reasons:
To have proper and effective representation in dealing with various government
agencies who are directly involved in the development and upliftment of the
marble industry;
To have proper and effective representation in dealing with the major
suppliers of the industry, both local and foreign;
To help individual marble producer members in times of
urgent need - e.g. as regards to marble stocks, supplies, etc.
In a meeting held 30 April 1984, the group approved Marble Association of the
Philippines (MAP) as its official name. The association's Board of Trustees and
Officers were inducted 31 July 1984.
Vision To be in
the top three supplier of finished stone in Asia by 2010.
Mission To foster
cooperation among members, upgrade operations of individual companies
and pursue the highest international standard of quality for the stone
industry to secure the global competitiveness of the Marble Association
of the Philippines.
